An ultra marathon with an atmosphere unlike any other.
Over 100,000 Australians have lost their lives whilst serving for our country. About 1 million people have served, or are currently serving for our country…. and each year, as a show of respect and remembrance, we hold the Light Horse Ultra Marathon, a timed loop event in the Northern Suburbs of Perth.
Our annual dawn service in the fields of Perry’s Paddock has the crisp morning air pierced with the eerie horn playing The Last Post and Reveille, before runners tackle the 24, 12, 6, 3 or 1 hour events on a 2.5k circuit of limestone, boardwalk and asphalt.

Whether you are stepping onto the course to honour a personal connection to our service personnel or running to show your deep respect for those who gave everything, every single kilometre serves a greater purpose.
Runners will experience a deeply moving dawn service, the pride of running alongside past and present service men and women, and an unmatched community spirit built on gratitude, history, and remembrance, culminating in a historic final celebration as we close out 10 magnificent years of honoring those who served.

CHOOSE YOUR TIME
The Light Horse Ultra isn't your typical point-to-point race. It’s a timed-loop challenge designed to test your limits, build an unforgettable community camp, and keep the energy high from the first second to the very last.
Instead of racing toward a fixed finish line, you decide how long you want to run. Choose from 1-hour-kids, 1-hour-pooch, 3-hour, 6-hour, 12-hour, or 24-hour categories.
CONQUER THE COURSE
Every ultra distance takes place on our fast, flat 2.61km circuit featuring a mix of limestone, boardwalk, and asphalt. To keep things interesting and save your legs, runners change direction every 3 hours.
Because it's a short loop, you are never far from aid, support, and the incredible energy of the race village.
THE AVENUE OF HONOUR
This is the heart of the event. Runners and their support crews set up their marquees right along the edge of the course.
Every single lap, you’ll run through a wall of sound, tents, and cheering supporters, making it the ultimate environment to chase a personal milestone.
24 HOUR RELAY
Enter our brand-new 24-Hour Teams Event for squads of 2, 3, or 4. Share a single timing chip, swap out each lap, or run in blocks – just pass the baton each time you transition in the exchange zone.
Only one runner can be on course at a time, until the final hour when all teammates are welcome to join on course together!
1-HOUR KIDS
A dedicated event for young runners (ages 6–18) to experience the electric energy of the race village. It takes place on a high-visibility 550m loop.
The clock is set for 1 hour, and there is zero pressure – kids can walk, jog, or sprint as many laps as they like before claiming their official finisher's medal.
1-HOUR POOCH & PARTNER
Team up with your favorite four-legged running buddy for a high-energy hour of power on the 550m loop. Pups must remain on a lead (waist or hand-held) at all times.
All dogs entered in the Pooch & Partner run must be on a lead (either waist or hand-held) at all times.
It’s all about having fun, soaking up the atmosphere, and crossing the finish line together to earn a well-deserved medal.

Volunteers are the absolute lifeline of the Lighthorse Ultra. Year after year, it is their selfless dedication, tireless energy, and endless support that keeps our runners moving, our aid stations stocked, and the incredible atmosphere alive through the day and night.
